Yesterday
we were out interviewing the basketball team Bakken Bears, about which injuries
they experienced and how they recovered. We had planned a group interview but
when we got there we found out that we would only be able to talk to a few
people – because it was after their practice. So we used the same questions,
but asked them individually. We ended up talking to 5-6 players, some of them
played as professionals and other had a job on the side. The professionals said
that they didn’t have any problems with doing the exercises at home, but they
often did them with a physiotherapist or at a training center. Some of the players with a
job on the side told us that sometimes they didn’t get to do their exercises because when they were at home,
they had family and it was more attractive to just sit in the couch and watch TV.
So their motivation for doing the exercises wasn’t equal.
The most
common injuries was ankle-, knee-, finger- and wrist injuries, mostly caused by overloading. Of these injuries, a sprained
ankle, a sprained finger or problems with the achilles tendon was most common.
We have made a questionnaire, so if people could fill it out it would be much appreciated:
